'03 Transmission
I also sent a complaint to the NHTSA. I have the same problem with a 2003 ES with 1000 miles on it.
The dealers quality lady said "flood Lexus" with complaints to get their attention (but stated we never heard it from her). Before I bought this car , I called Lexus, and they assured me, that a software fix was being completed for both the 2002 and 2003, and DID not state the 2002 had been fixed by this software, but that it would be in April. So it seems they don't know. At Lexus (number above) they just take the info, and gave no assistance except to say the fix was not shelved, and should be available year end. My dealers repair shop said he had over 50 complaints just in his in box. Since the creation of car, having to "think about what gear the automatic should be in, when you need to "floor" it, shouldnt mean the transmission and engine saying " I am busy, be with you in a minute."

the service writer at Lexus of Norwood (MA) stated that Lexus had been working on a fix but have abandoned it again because the fix they had would not allow the car to acquire the emissions ratings they have posted.
I don't know if I buy this. It sounded more like they (the dealerhship and Lexus) were well aware of the problem and complaints and that they (Lexus) aren't moving fast on anything. Duh!!!!

I expressed my concerns verbally to 1800-25-LEXUS recently in regards to the 02-03 tranny shift logic problem. They agreed it was a problem and knew I had lodged a complaint a few months back.
upon arrival home today from work, I had a message on my machine from the customer service rep that I spoke to and he stated that Lexus is about to issue a letter to 02/03 ES owners to describe the problem, they attempted resolve, and their plans for future resolution.
If anyone gets this letter, transcribe the contents or scan the letter into a post reply.
thanks, steviej
