Wondering if anyone on here has the same experience with the NAV system in their ES. I find it completely useless. It calculates totally out of the way routes and takes detours for no reason along the way. It was an expensive option and I haven't been able to use it to my satisfaction in a year that I've owned the car. I've tried with and without traffic calculations with the same result.
Directs me to get off the highway just to get back on at the next entrance. No traffic and shorter distance if I stayed on.
Typical route calculation. Longer route through Manhattan. This route would have taken way longer than stated due to traffic and traffic guidance is active.
yeah, unfortunately phones have long been a better navigation tool than what comes in the cars. to be fair Lexus isn't alone in this, they're all equally terrible.
hopefully they adopt Apple Carplay and Android Auto sooner rather than later.
yes, navigation is not even half as good as Google Maps/Waze. (BTW, apple map is also equally bad...) I mostly keep the maps on, while using my phone for directions. Big and Bright display of Lexus is really good .
That Todt Hill Rd/Slosson Ave Exit bought back memories for me, Im originally from SINY, my exit was Richmond Rd/Hylan Blvd...LOL. That lexus route is so wrong and bad, you never want to go in through Manhattan/NJ route unless you there is major traffic on the BQE and you need cheap gas (in NJ) and dont feel like paying a $15 toll over the VZ bridge.

There is no substitute for the human brain, not yet anyway.
Not sure what you mean.
I don't know anyone who can figure out the best route from point a to point b on a road they never traveled and know the traffic situation on all possible routes.

I take usually take the NJ route to NYC, but never to/from Brooklyn. What really blows my mind is telling me to exit the expressway for an exit just to get back on.

I agree, most factory Nav systems are bad, but this one is by far the worst.
The system in my wife's explorer crashes or just fails to recalculate and gives up, but the routes it chooses usually make sense.
Before my ES I had a Nissan then an Infiniti. Both systems were not perfect, but they were more useful than what I have now.
Frustrating to spend $1000+ on a Nav system when my phone and Google can do a way better job. My sub $200 Garmin is a genius compared to the ES.

You need to look at the 3 choices and pick what you feel is the best route.
