UPDATE: Driving the 2015 ES350 yesterday in 82 to 93 degree temps, in Normal Mode and Auto air circulation, it stayed in recirculate. It may monitor humidity and that is why it did not change, who knows. I actually prefer recirculate since it still brings in some outside air anyway. My 2013 ES300h UL has a humidity monitor on the windshield to the left of the rear view mirror but my 2015 ES350 UL does not have it, at least not where it is on my 2013.

I also wonder if the software was the same for all vehicles produced in the 2013 model year. I know that there was likely at least one software change to the climate control system during that model year because, with the settings for vehicle customization, the manual shows 3 settings that can be changed for the climate control system, but my ES only has 2 settings that can be changed.
See below from the 2013 ES300h manual.

My 2013 ES manual shows exactly the same thing as what you posted. But, when I actually go to the vehicle customization settings on the car, only the 2nd and 3rd of those 3 settings are available. The first one, "efficient ventilation mode" is not there. If it were there, I believe that setting it to "off" would eliminate the issue that I have.

The fact that this setting is not available on my car is what makes me think that there may have been a software revision that changed the availability of that setting. When I've checked with 2 dealers and tried to contact corporate Lexus about the absence of that setting, I've gotten no explanation.

On either your ES300h or your ES350, is that setting actually available?

Checked my 2013 350 and no "Efficient Ventilation Mode" setting available. My 2013 was an early (2012) delivery...

Bob,

Could you check to see whether your manual shows all 3 options or whether it only has the 2 that are actually on your car? I'm trying to figure out whether any of the ES ever actually had all 3 settings available. I suppose it could be the case that the early ones only had 2, and that, at some later point, the 3rd one was added, but my ES has a much later production date than yours (April, 2013), and it only has the 2 settings available.

I also find it interesting that, in the list of "dealer only" settings that can only be changed only with TechStream or the Carista app, there is an "efficient ventilation mode", but its description is completely different, and it seems to relate to whether, when the defroster is used, the AC compressor is automatically engaged ro whether it is only engaged if done so manually.

Yeah, it's weird - Lexus's verbiage about this is inconsistent. In some cases, it seems "efficient ventilation" refers to switching between recirculating mode and outside air mode, and in others, it has to do with engaging the AC compressor when the defogger is on. If I'm not mistaken, currently, in Carista the former is called "A/C ECO mode" and the latter is called "Auto-turn on A/C when front defroster is on". I'm not sure if either or both are available on the 2013 ES.

I have a 2016 ES and i am looking at the manual right now.. on page 368..It says to press the button ea time you want to change from outside or recirculate or auto. This button is about 3 inches long. "When the system is switched to automatic mode, the A/C system operates automatically.".Since I have Navigation. I can use the remote controler and push menue. then select climate and change everything in there , as well as buttons on the dash...Since ive only had the car 2 weeks and its been very warm i have only had it in auto...

Checked my 2013 ES300h built November 2012 and there are only the bottom 2 options. The Efficient setting is not there. I also have the SMOG sensor sensitivity at the highest setting, I wonder if that makes it stay in recirculate.

I've experimented with the smog sensor setting at both the highest and lowest sensitivity, and it doesn't seem to make any difference with regard to whether the system operates in the fresh air or recirculate mode. When the temperature is above the low 70s, it operates constantly in the recirculate mode, which is, again, consistent with what it says in the manual.

I would be interested in knowing if others with ES vehicles all the way from 2013 to 2016 could check the available climate control customization items actually available in the vehicle's menu to see if anyone has the Efficient Ventilation Mode setting available or if we all only have the other two settings available.

I have only two options for setting. Not three. No "efficient ventilation mode" available. My car built in August 2012...
