Your backup key is a valet key that turns the ignition and opens doors. But not the glove box or trunk, to deter thieves.

Hi Alexbenz,

For the repair of the broken key, I'll add my vote to JB Weld. With this broken key as your only master key, you may wan't to get a backup master key so you won't be at the mercy of the dealer if this key gets lost or permanently damaged.

can the black cap portion be removed and replaced? the piece that broke is gone...don't know where it went...

the valet key looks just like my original key. what's a low cost way to replace the key if need be?

the key blade is "made into" the black housing, so no.

What's another cheap way to make a new key that looks like OEM but minus the OEM price tag?

Default Reasonably priced keys

Hi Alexbenz,

Earlier this year I acquired my 2003 ES300 and received the three button remote key and a valet key. I purchased a new master key without the remote feature, cut from a picture of my master key, for $24.89 delivered from an Ebay seller called 1010keys. Their email address is Ten10keys@aol.com
I also purchased the "flat key" wallet size emergency master key from them for $34.98 (see attached photo). They sent programming instructions and it was easy.

Hope this helps,

Vic

Super gluing is technically a good and bad idea. If you keep a lot of keys on your Lexus key, Super glue is NOT a good idea

I don't know if I understand -is your problem simply the broken piece or is the remote is not working? If it's the former maybe one of those car key covers or similar may help. http://www.high-end-motorsports.com/...te-covers.html

I had a similar problem. Shape a piece of wire to cover the gap and epoxy it to the key. Then get a key cover from Toyota. Mine has been holding up for over a year.

Get a blank key 90999-00220 and have it cut. It will need to be programmed which is really easy.

How much we talking? And why would it need to be programmed? Does it have a transponder?
