i think sometimes over the past 3 or so years they switched to HD systems
you should be able to update yourself if you have a map DVD

the latest one that just came out is U38 i think i have a U37 and not going to spend the money to update for another year or 2 i feel just 1 year is a waste of money usssualy in all my cars i only updated every other year the the most every 3 years

There has been a lot of discussion here on DVD map updates. If you do a search, I'm sure you'll find the instructions. It's pretty easy to do.

I believe that 2009 ES350s still had DVD nav. If so your DVD is located under the moulding at the bottom of the screen. To remove the moulding pull up (not out) using your fingernail or similar. You eject the old DVD by pressing eject on the menu of the Nav screen (don't remember offhand exactly, but I think you go to map ver. / about map). Insert new DVD replace cover and you're done! More excellent and detailed info about this and other questions can be found by searching in the forum. Good luck!

Correct. 2009 was the last year for the DVD nav. 2010+ have the HD version.
