Hello CL. So this is what i wake up to..... last image is after i applied some rubbing compound to it. i guess it was a drunk driver or something but i would appreciate it if someone can tell me what this would cost to repair thank you

 

I'm sorry this happened... it's a tragedy. I have NO idea what it would cost.... should be a lot...

I think the door jab is part of the chassis so I bet it would be a few $1,000

Thanks for the reply. An yeah even tho its not a big damage but it definitely caused a good amount. Every time i drive through a slop or a small bump the wheel well rubs the tire...so sad you leave your car parked in the streets and wake up the next day and find it damaged pretty bad. over $1,000? wow i was thinking maybe $500 around there the car is full covered but i have a $500 deductible.

They don't make aftermarket replacement quarter panels, and 'used' ones are starting at 700$

 

I know my solution won't be the best, but have you thought about shaving the rear to make it stop rubbing and hammer out the rest? As I mentioned it's not the best choice but rather a temporary one to get things up and running.

 

I am going to my regular mechanic after work today see what he is going to charge me for this. Never thought about that but i don't want to shave lol.

you already have your estimate - 500$ is what you pay under your insurance. the rest your insurance company picks up. Do you care if its 1000 or 3000? you are not the one paying the difference.

It is definitely more than your deductible.

They will also pick a garage where you have to take the car since they negotiate the rates .... so your mechanic may or may not be in their network of approved repair facilities.

 

my mechanic said he will do it for me for $350. i'll post some pics after the work is done.

 

At this price, I'd be skeptical as to what quality of paint and specifically clear coat he uses.

To do it properly, you have to blend the quarter panel and door, and maybe clear-coat the adjacent panels.

Clear coat is something you don't want to skimp on, because it will start peeling off in a year if they don't use the right kind or mix enough hardener.

It'll look great coming out of the shop, but in a year, you'll regret. We've learned that on our Sienna's front bumper.

Being a bodyman/painter I would estimate it around $1200-$1500 depending on which shop you take it to. I wouldn't consider Maaco a shop (just to get it out of equation)
To do proper job they would have to blend into quarter panel and door and reclear both panels.
If you were local I'd give you a discount and probably do it for $800 total out the door.

 

Yeah that's what he told me about blending the quarter panel and the door, and yeah i am skeptical as well the price is pretty low, but i have worked with this guy for a few years now and he has done work on my other cars that is why he is charging me that much.

 

^ while that is low, the "repeat customer" discount could mean anything from $10 off to a few hundred. Iguess at that price, if it does look bad in a year, you can just repaint it again.

 

Why would you go to a mechanic to do bodywork/paint? That's like going to dentist to get your nails done

 

any body work/paint always go to a few body shops and get estimates.
