Default do it yourself ram air filter

Hi I tried searching this but couldn't find anything . I'm looking for a write up or a detailed description on which materials to use. I'm not looking for pvc pipe step up or anything ghetto. Thank you very much 97 ES300 v6

I'm surprised I haven't seen a reply yet. I looked at the "only air mod that works" thread and I didn't like the fact you have to drill into the mass let alone use a pvc bung and epoxy for the 5/8" vaccum line. The weapon r is ugly and over priced in my opinion. Any other suggestions?

leave it stock!
a lot of those air intakes are a complete waste of money and wont benefit your mpg or affect your performance.

on the 1mz, if you want to do DIY, look into SPEC intake piping kits. those are mostly modular so you can piece together what you want to run.

Throw a K&N ait filter in the box instead. You'll probably see better results than a bubba-j cold air intake.

Haven't heard good things about K&N Filters either ^

The only intake I have seen on these forums is the "Weapon R" one.

Wouldn't bother with it though.

I really just want to help the car breathe right. I couldn't image stock being the best option, does anyone have any graphs to prove otherwise?

lol graphs.

It's like the LS400, the intake is far from restricting and is fine as is. Remove the resonator in your bumper if you want more noise and route a pipe where the resonator once was, that's all I did.

So you think that cobbling something together with stuff you buy from Home Depot is going to be better than what the designers of your car came up with?

I'd imagine a K&N air filter being better than a potato gun air intake lmao

Don't get Weapon R or any Cheap Ebay brand intake. I had an Ebay one before, all it did was make noise.

Now what I have on is one made by Injen. Now there is one big difference between the Injen and cheap ebay brand intakes. The injen one is actually longer and the intake nose sits right by the area where the intake box was at.

NOW, do I notice much a difference, not really, but the Injen unit is not a noise maker, will not make the noise until I hit about 4k to 5k rpm.

Before all you guys go its useless and crap
1.) I got it for free
2.) It was a C.A.R.B Legal intake so hey why not. (My Cali friends know what I am talking about)

None of these systems will provide any benefit to your car. Some may cause the CEL to come on.

Do a YouTube search and you'll find several Independent reviews, most with Dynamometer testing results showing that these systems do absolutely nothing.

Total waste of money, Same category as those miracle gadgets that claim to dramatically increase your fuel mileage.
