Default Emergency Brake Light

1996 ES, 74,000 miles

Since last week, my emergency brake light comes on for no reason. It will stay lit for several minutes and go off. I feel nothing different when I am driving. This happens more often when the car is cold but it will come on occasionally when the car is fully warmed up and I am driving on the highway. I already checked the emergency brake and it works properly. The brake fluid is fine.

Does anyone have any idea why it does this?

Thanks

take your car in for service and have them adjust the number of clicks for your parking brake. should be around 8 or so.

Hmm... the brake light problem happened to me too, but it was on a rented Dodge Stratus from Enterprise (Lexus picked up the tab when I brought my car in for a paint job). I didn't care anyways, the Stratus was a piece of junk (no leather, no power).

Exclamation

Once again there was another thread on this already. I put it up, and the what i figured out was that all you have to do is put some break fluid into the reserve that is in the engine bay. I filled this up after having my brake light on for about a month and I drove a good distance after filling it up, let my car sit a couple of hours, and walla, it went away. You might also notice that your cruise control wont work.

Save money and just fill it up!!!!!

oooooooooook....I Was thinking of somthing totally different.

Heres what I did.

It turned out that it was on because of a low break fluid indicator.

I took just about everything apart, and then I figured that the indicator for the break fluid was all [coroded] I guess is the word. I took it out and cleaned it up, put it back in and the light went off....

It was weird, becuase it started to go on after I went over bumps, or like really bumpy terrain, like on gravel after it gets thoes grooves... After a while it was just on all the time... BUGGED ME!
