answered own question I think. give me your opinion. on the dash clock there is a :00 button on the left by pushing that it sets clock to nearest hour. then the minutes start rolling as you go and you subtract the final time from start time and you've got your timer. it's a crude make do but it works. thoughts?

If you cycle through the instrument cluster display using the "DISP" button on your steering wheel you'll find "Elapsed time" which gives you the trip time.

I had a 2007 and now have a 2010 and both of them have the Elapsed Time feature.

I was wondering if the OP was looking for a way to keep the elapsed time feature running until the driver resets it. As it is, each time you shut the car off the timer resets so you don't get the total cumlative time of a trip.

Default 2012 ES350 Elapsed Time meaning changed from 2003 model

1st post, so might read pretty klutzy. Anyway, my 2003 ES300 was perfect for trip drive time calculation. I could manually reset to 0 at trip start, record time at trip end, and repeat process each time I wanted to collect a driving time baseline for a particular trip. My 2012 ES350, however, automatically resets elapsed time either at key off or key on, I can't tell which, providing a worthless (for my purposes) record of only a string of trip segments, which is intuitively a dramatic step backward. I might spring for a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts for someone who can tell me that there is way to put me back in control, other than tracking down my old ES.
