Question P1705 CEL code

I found out what I need with relative ease - Toyota Part 89413-08020 (Transmission Clutch Speed Sensor) but I want to know WHY!!????

I was driving under E (gas light was on) and going off an off ramp. I lose ALL power everything - steering, braking, etc and couldn't accelerate. turned the car completely off, then back on with no problem. Sped to the gas station to fill up. All realizing I had a CEL. Why would this part go due to my gas running out is the real question. Any opinions appreciated..

and also, would you trust pulling one from the junkyard or going the safe route of purchasing one brand new on ebay for only ~$64. (It doesn't look too technical not to work by it just being a magnet)

Hey, just logged back in a few days ago. I cant rememeber where i got the part from, but replacing it did the trick. I think i just pulled from a junk yard after checking resistance comfirming it was functional.

Still not sure what caused it, but the car dying from no gas definitely caused it.
