Bump. I was looking at these today.

I'm tired of over stressing the ****ty 80amp unit Toyota gave us from the Camry. Definately not the same level of accessories that camry's had.

The Avalon with same amount of gadgets came with a 100amp unit, and highlander with a 130amp.

Now I know of the big three upgrade, has anyone on these boards ever just swapped in a Avalon unit? Or highlander? ...without adverse affects? I don't want to see flickering lights at startup anymore!!

highlander alt works on the 1MZ confirmed.
not sure about the 3vz though.

but i think the thing with the flickering of the lights is actually due to the battery.

^ I've changed mine once and it came back. I even swapped it for another to test it out.

I was pressing the brake the other day and my headlights flickered when doing so. No accessories were on, other than headlights and radio...

the thing is though, almost every car has this problem. some cars worse than the other.
Try an optima yellow/red top to see if it helps a bit.

also bad grounds could be an issue. I think it's a known problem as well. Some people upgraded their grounding cables with higher gauge wires and the electrical system behaved better.

I was thinking grounds too, but at the same time, its such a pita to redo the whole thing.
And i know for a fact those Avalon's have no issues with the tails out indicator or anything like that with the 100amp unit, where these things do on almost all of them it seems.

I have the big three done... running my system and HIDs doesn't flicker but I have a cap too... I was going to get a high output alternator but for another 300 not sure if its worth it.
