Default 99' Stuttering problem when accelerating!?!?!

I've had my es300 for almost a year now bought used and it's always had a "stuttering" problem when accelerating. It's mostly when the engine is cold BUT sometimes does it when it's been running for a while. I've never mashed it to the floor until the other day out of curiosity. It just cut out until i took my foot off the gas. I've done research and am thinking it's the MAF. Any suggestions would be awesome. THanks

Is there a CEL (check engine light)?

A few years ago, I have a similar issue with my car. At first, there was no CEL. A few days later, the CEL would come on pointing to the EGR valve position sensor. I replaced it and it was perfect after.

See it's not on and that confuses me. Any other suggestions? Diagnostic test?

Could be that the previous owner messed up the timing of the engine by not aligning the timing belt correctly.
