Need New Tires
Hello ClubLexus,
I bought a 2005 ES 330 new back in late 2004, and it has 62K miles on it now. Around the 40K-mile mark, the OEM tires finally wore out, and I replaced them with Yokohamas (I forget exactly which). After taking the car in for servicing today, I was told that the tires only had about 5-10K miles worth of tread remaining. This really surprised me, since that's a good 25% shorter time than the original tires.
Can anyone on this list recommend good tires to buy or avoid?
Thanks!

Michelin I think are the best for your car. I have Michelin Pilot Exalto a/s. v rated, a good h rated tire will save you some money. Check tire rack.com for reviews. I think you get what you pay for in tires, take your time and look at the reviews. I have a 04 ES with 82000 miles and is very quiet with these tires. Hope this helps.
Bridgestone Turanza Serenity, Michelin Primacy MXV4, Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring should be at the top of your list. You can't go wrong with any of them. The knock on the Serenity's is somewhat poor snow and ice traction.

I personally love my Bridgestone Potenza tires. They are in the performance line though and have that feel while still delivering comfort.
Everyone on the forums however swear by the Michelin Primacy MXV4.

I had bridgestones for a while a few potenzas, turansas? and serenitys, the serenitys were my favorite. I now have yokohama avid envigors and they handle great, just wear pretty quickly and suck in snow. Also i'm not sure if its my tire place, but that always have a really hard time balancing yokohamas, this one and my last set to, h4? i believe
It's good to know that the Potenzas are good as well. Two good choices are better than one.
Since the ES is hardly a sporty car, though, I'm not sure that I'd really see an advantage from performance tires.
I agree about the Yokohamas and snow. My car is totally undrivable in even a a modest amount of snow, which was a bit embarrassing after seeing my friend's Civic Hybrid (!) do very well in snow/icy conditions.

The Turanza w/Serenity is a Grand Touring "luxury" tire with great handling. The Potenza's are the high performance street tire that I did have on my car before my Turanza's and yeah the Potenza's weren't for me.

I personally had bad luck with ALL Yokohamas and Bridgestone Potenzas. The Yokohamas really wore out quickly. The Potenzas were on a different car, but really had a lot of road noise (they did however have sharp handling)
I've always done really well with Michelin (I have the Destiny on the Es300). Sometimes, Michelins can be way overpriced, but for the OEM wheels, they were a small premium that over the long run is MUCH cheaper than buying a lesser brand.
