ECM question
Hey guys I'm new to the forums but I've been lurking for awhile now. I have a 1994 Lexus es300 with a bad ECM I have a few questions.
I found a used ECM from a salvage yard with matching numbers and all but I heard that I would need the key that belong to to the ignition of the Lexus to reprogram it, is this true ? Or would I be able to just swap out the ECM and run it like that ?
Thanks

I know for sure that a 1997-2001 ES300 will need to be re-programmed. Swapping out the ECM with a salvage part will not work, the car will start and run for 5 seconds and then shut off. I was also told that a you need a NEW ECM, because the salvage part cannot be programmed again, but that may just be a dealer trying to make money (I was told this by a tech at a Lexus dealer).
Now for your car, I am not sure if you will have the same issues. Hopefully someone else can chime in, although I suspect that the situation is basically the same, at least you will need the main computer programmed to accept your key.

Thanks for your response, anybody else have an idea ?
I just wanna know if a replacment ECM for a 94 es300 with matching numbers is plug and play, or would I have to re program it ?
Thanks

yep, plug and play, as long as the computer is for the correct engine you will be fine....the older Lex's don't have a chip in them... you will be fine...
as long as the engine type and trans type are correct you will be fine.... just out of curiosity how much do the ask for the puter....would not pay much more than $50.00....its the same as for a V6 camry..... nothing special.
