Wallet Key
Kinda time sensitive, my own fault for waiting until last minute to ask about this, but tomorrow afternoon we're bringing in the '03 ES for service and while there I was hoping to get a wallet key made for my '01 ES. I'm wondering if this is something that can be done on the spot while I wait at Lexus, also a rough idea of how much it'll cost and if I need to bring anything special with me to prove ownership of the vehicle to have another key made. This is something IMO that's very important to keep on you which I should have had done much sooner, but better later than never. As always, thank you for your replies guys.
I don't know anything about how much the dealer will charge. I am sure with the VIN they can order one for you. I had a situation last summer where I would have been screwed without it. I was putting something into my trunk and locked my keys in the trunk. I didn't worry too much as my sunroof was open and my windows were down. I reached in to hit the trunk release and it would not open as the doors were locked and it is part of the security system. My wife was out of town with the other master key. I was afraid I was going to have to call a locksmith as I was in a very bad part of town. (If I was to leave it there for more than an hour or two, it probably would have been stolen) Luckily I remembered my wallet key and was able to open the trunk and get my keys out.
Double check with your dealer and keep us posted as I would like an extra made myself!
Good Luck!

Tom,
I was quoted $60. Apparently it includes a chip which is part of the cost. I didn't order it but I'm gonna think it over and may decide to get it Thursday when I'm back.
I agree with you 100% though, my Cadillac came with a type of one time use break-off type plastic key which I've managed to bend so it's reusable, it's come in handy a few times.
