Default Speed sensor

I have a 2000 ES300. my speedometer, odometer, and cruise control are not working. the VSS on and off lights are on, abs light is on and check engine light is on. i checked the codes at autozone which told me it was the speed sensor. i changed that and the all of the above is still happening. i also checked the fuses. what do i do next?

After you changed the speed sensor, did you reset the computer either with the scan tool or by disconnecting the battery for 30 or so seconds? Did the speedo work after replacing the sensor?

Default sigh.... newbs....

i think he is saying that the problem, as defined above , is still happening, which if true I'm not sure would be solved by clearing a code.

which speed sensor is bad? this can mean 6 different things....
give the code number [duh] and exact name of the part you had changed......

let us know, especially mike deano, because he has an '00 and is going to remember a thread like this very well! haha

As you now realize, you cannot just read a code and start replacing parts. The codes are there to indicate what sensor to check. The proper way to troubleshoot error codes is to get the code number and then make the relevant tests. There are several speed sensors, it is possible you replaced the wrong one. It is also possible that the real problem is not the sensor. The problem could be the wire harness, or the ECM itself. So unless you want to randomly throw parts at it, you need to get the code and then inspect the circuit.

I replaced the speed sensor with the 2 terminal plug. to the left of the air filter. i was getting the P0500 code. and after replacing it i am still getting that code. i also have the trac control, abs, and check engine lights on on the dash. i did try to reset the computer and that did not work either. i cant find the other sensor with the gear on it.

Sorry to say, but the first sensor was the correct sensor for the speedometer. It should have three wires connected to the sensor, the one that you replaced appears to have only two.

Attached is the DTC P0500 Inspection Procedure. As you can see, the first thing to check is open or short in VSS circuit.

Hey, I have a lexus GS400 and my speed odometer is not working. My VSS light is on and my abs light is on. I had the codes read and it gave me 4 codes. 3 speed sesors and the yaw sensor. Do anybody now where I can get the speed sensors from other than the lexus dealer. Please any suggestions on how I can fix my problem.
