Hey guys, I have a 98 es300 with 130k kms and I was driving on the highway for about 2 hours when the engine just shut off on me. There was no loud clanking or any loud noises when the engine stopped although i can't remember for sure. It wouldn't start after that and the engine doesn't turn over. It kind of seems as though there is some connection problem. Tried doing a search on this forum to no avail. The mechanic says that the engine might be seized, however will be doing some further inspections to find out exactly what could be wrong. Has anyone gone through this or heard of a similar problem? Thanks guys.
When you turn the key to start, does the starter solinoid engage, but not turn over? If so try turning the engine over by hand. If you can't turn it thru several revolutions, chances are you timming belt broke and you bent a valve.
You may have a sludge problem. I don't own an ES, but in reading thru these forums, certains years of the ES had a problem with locking up due to sludge and Toyota was having to replace those engines. Do a keyword serch under this and see if this fits your problem.
well what kind of mechanic taken a car that was towed looks at it and goes, "Well the engine might be seized. Go online and ask strangers what is wrong with it."

I'm not sure if the solinoid engages.. how would I check that. The mechanic said they tried to turn it over by hand and it would not turn. I am waiting to hear back tomorrow as the mechanic will be doing further work to find out what the problem is. The thing is, I just replaced the timing belt last year. Hmmm

the mechanic never said "go online and ask strangers what is wrong with it"
Check out the sludge thing, see if your year is covered in this mess. If not it looks like you will be needing a replacement. There are several people on ebay that sell low mileage replacments from japan for less than $1000 us.
