Bushings
I have the same problem but with the front suspension. I hear this noise on right and left. I was told by the mechanics that this is the shock absorber and they want 800$. I got those parts and replace it myself using instructions for GS300, it was similar.
But what is the cause of this noise? I think it may come from strut mounts, but there is sound coming from lower level of the car.
Please help.

Strut tower mounts. Like that guy i had a bunch of junk changed. except for struts that is. this is the one thing i have to change soon otherwise everything else is done [except for struts, but those a a1 condition]
As well for the clunking noise in the rear, it is bushings, iirc they are plastic vs rubber/polyurethane, so my good 'ole mechanic made a pair of polyurethane ones fit!
I suggest at the same time to do the linkages. As i had BOTH done at once, and well, NOISE NO MORE!!! -mike

Thats a bit of a drive for you. In that case, there is another good way to get the parts discounted from the dealer.
1st, you can get the exact part # for the item you want from: http://www.*******.com/parts/q.html It;s the same program the dealers used to use untill just recently (it;s better then the new program ironically).
Then you can order the parts via part # from: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=213747 Before I started to get my discound at the dealership here (Where I should be working soon as well), I used to get the parts from there. They did not rape you on shipping either. And never had an issue. And shipping was quick as well.
BUT here is the thing, when you enter the part number to buy it, choose "Toyota" for the car, NOT Lexus. Toyota gets more of a discount, even though it;s the same part in the same box made at the same time on the same assembly line.

Don't fall for that! Lexus DID set everything up so that their owners would just replace bushing-containing suspension parts, but the aftermarket folks got wise and developed bushings that replace, and oftentimes improve upon, the OEM bushings.
I just replaced every bushing on my SC300 with Daizen bushings, and most (all? can't recall) of my suspension bushings on my '92 ES (2nd gen ES like yours) were replaced with R2 bushings.
Any chance you're in North Texas?

I am in North Texas (Addison). Where did you get your bushings?
I ordered the majority of them from TM Engineering and one kit through Sewell parts. Installed with with some of the other North Texas Lexus (NTL) guys: JeffTsai, NaiL05 and Matador.
It was a tedious and time-consuming experience! Next time I'll drop several c-notes for the install at JPI (or Davenport if they do those) like Matador did once his came in.
