im not sure if anyone has ever noticed this but...
in warm weather, like 65-70+ my car makes a very weird noise. It is sort of a clicking noise, sort of like the noice pinging makes but a fair amount later. It occurs only in 1st and 2nd gear at 1500 to low 2k rpms. During these times i also definately notice a loss of power (probably more contributed to the warmer weather) and both of these issues happen when the engine is fully warm and it seems to get worse the longer i drive.
if anyone has any ideas or have experienced this please comment
65-70+ weather you usually have your windows down? and if they are you definetly hear alot more outside and the clickin noise could be your wheel caps loose and them rotating faster they bounce up and down more often making a clicking noise.... thats what mine was
well you said "pinging" but i mean the clicking noise is kinda what u described
sorry for the long reply, but i dont think what u described is the same thing.
first off, i drive with my driver side window open basically at all times except in really cold weather or rain. also i hear the noise after the engine is warmed, after driving for 20-30 minutes.
and also, i dont normally drive very far differences so i dont notice this problem too often, so i wasnt quite sure if there was a loss of power but recently ive been driving a lot and there is def. a loss of power when i hear the noise. this to me is more alarming then the noise because i dont understand why i would lose power after driving for a while. in fact the engine seems as weak as it does when the engine is completely cold.
and the "pinging" or detonation noise that i said sounds kinda like a faint rattle when the engine is strained and this is exactly what it sounds like only quite a bit louder and happens only at certain rpms even when not under heavy load. and it is loud enough that i can clearly hear it with the windows up.
