I have just purchased a 93 es 300. When you initially start the car it has a loud whining noise that improves as the engine warms up. Th higher pitched whine becomes lower and more quiet . It takes approximately 10-12 minutes. Any ideas of the problem? Is this normal?

 

Explain more on how this whining sound is. To me...it sounds like your serpentine belts need to be changed.

 

Power steering pump?? Cold fluid (or lack of fluid) may be more of a factor in a higher mileage ES300. Check and see if it is up to the proper level, cold.
