Default Navigation System lacking function

Its quite sad that the Navigation system on the ES is so lacking.
I really love the car but the NAV system has too many weaknesses for a 40K car.

1. As most have complained here, the over-nanny factor is out-of-control.
As a an electrical engineer in my past life, I plan to quickly add the manual switch to cut-out the vehicle speed sensor. I may even work on a solution that senses my finger approaching the screen for automatic switching (I will keep everyone posted).
2. No calling out of street names. I really like this feature in some of the portable Garmins.
3. No Navtraffic. A huge omission. And for someone who plans on keeping the car for 5 years or more, its going to quickly become an outdated system.
4. Voice command doesnt work that well (I tried it on my test drives)

So what am I faced with? I have no choice. I need the nav for the following reasons.
1. Resale value. Its will be almost impossible tor sell a non-nav Lexus in 5 years without a nav system.
2. The Nav system and bluetooth handsfree are only available with the NAV. I heard rumors of a factory order with ML/no-nav but I don't want to wait months for my car.

So it looks like I am going to spend $2K+ on a system that I may rarely use and instead opt for a portable Garmin with more features.
