Default Knock Sensor

Is it a lot of trouble and work to replace the knock sensors from a 92 es? I'm getting a front main knock sensor code is the reason I asked.

Your knock sensors are located under the lower intake manifold... you have to remove upper and lower intakes, and be careful unplugging the sensors they are very brittle or you will spend an additional 45 bucks at toyota for the sensor wire the knock sensor can be purchaced from auto zone for $130 or so

The upper intake manifold is the one with the cold start valve etc... is connected right? Is the lower intake manifold the long cover that is between the cylinder heads? Does any of the timing components have to be removed to get to the knock sensors?

no timing components removed... you do have to remove the fuel injector racks but its not as hard as it sounds... do you have a manual?

Nope. It's an automatic. I'm glad that the timing components don't have to come out. The FSM makes it seem like it does from the way the diagram looks.

There are 2 knock sensors for the 92 es300. Each knock sensor is about $125 each and I recommend that you change both of them at the same time. After you replaced the knock sensors, the engine light will disappear and your car will perform like a V6 again with lots of power.
I recently changed mine because the car runs weak with the engine light on.
