Default Tranny flash

How involved is this transmission flash? I believe the TSIB is TC005-07. If it just a flash shouldn't take more than 5 minutes right? I was at the dealership yesterday getting my first 5k oil change and I requested to do this flash and they fed BS about that I need to leave the car there for 4 hours and my car needs to be proven to have the flaring issue.

I had the flash done at my dealer (before in the end getting a new transaxle).
It took a little less than an hour from the time I left the car, til I left with it.

Fine, they want you to demonstrate that you have the "flare"?
Just film it on a camcorder, showing your instrument cluster.
When you combine the sound, with images of the tach jumping up several hundred RPM while the speedometer doesn't when the car shifts, plus seeing the odometer reading being very close, they can't deny it.

Also, what I did, was to create an mpeg file of my car, and when I left a copy of it with them on a CD ROM, I also "helpfully" let them know that if anybody at Toyota wanted to see a demonstration of my "flare", they could go to a link I provided them on Internet, where Up uploaded this mpeg demonstration file.

Geez, it is a shame that us owners have to drive a car that flares, yet alone put up with this crap at the service department.

Calmly explain to them that you are busy and taking time out of your schedule to resolve an issue, and ask them to help you with same. If they insist on witnessing the event, then get a loaner and let them fiddle with it on their own time.

It's a simple ECU flash for a known problem, and they get reimbursed for the time. They are probably avoiding performing the service because it means acknowledging the problem to begin with, which commits them to repairing it if the flash doesn't work.
