I have encountered a problem with the radar used in the cruise control. It has been working great the past year but recently it occasionally overreacts slowing the car excessively. It also will start breaking when no vehicle is in front. This can present a dangerous situation. I have not taken this up with the dealer yet. Wanted to see what the forum had to say.
You are the first person I am aware of that has that option. Some time ago someone asked if anyone had the radar cruise and no one responded. If you don't get a response, don't take it personally!
This was one feature I had hoped to get on my car since I do 100 miles of highway driving 5 days a week. The dealership said they never order models with that option - they had never even had a request to order it. I wonder if it is something that can be installed by Lexus post-production...

Any similar problems?
It's stuff like this which is probably why the dealers persuaded me not to even bother ordering the radar cruise control option. That, and from I've read so far about the Lexus/Toyota radar cruise control indicates that it doesn't function as well as the MB version.
Hey, if it's using "radar" then couldn't those radar detector jammer technically cause interference with the system? Giving it false signatures and causing the system to brake?
Interesting that I am the only one on this forum with the radar option. This was one of the first ES350's built as we picked it up in early June of 2006. It was the only car on the lot with everything. My wife liked the color so we traded our 2000 ES300.
The radar has been fun to operate and has worked well on the highway. It has 3 settable distances from the car in front. It will keep a fixed distance no matter where the cruise speed is set. The down side is people will cut in front of you. It also has only 5 MPH increments, however the radar can be turned off.
