help. my powersteering is leaking
i noticed a lot of powersteering fluid dripping from the bottom of the powersteering pump. is this going to be a expensive repair?? what am i looking at as for cost of repair at a gurage?
Most of the Lexus model suffer from a little part called the Idle Air Control Valve going bad. This is on the bottom of the power steering pump. Hopefully the pump is the same for your ES as it is for the LS. I just ordered my replacement valve and the part was like $80. Not sure if this is your case as well, I know some of the ES guru's will be checking in soon.
^Yes they do. Its right on the intake chamber. They dont go "bad" per se; they just clogged w/ carbon and need to be cleaned periodicly.
BrianES300 check your high presuure hose first. And if you top off the fluid, use only ATF.

from what i can see it looks like its coming from the pump but its too tight to see. im just goign to bring it to my mechanic and tell him to figure it out. im tired of workign on cars. i need a dam break lol
Yes, you are right. The ES models do have an "idle air control valve." They do not have what is known as the "air control valve" or "idle up valve", which is screwed into the bottom of the power steering pump. This valve raises or lowers the idle speed depending on the pressure in the power steering pump. These valves are famous for leaking power steering fluid into the intake manifold.

Hi,
I have a similar situation. One day i noticed my 93 Es was making a 'whinning' noise when I started it. then it got even more noticible as i turn the wheel.
So, i check the PS tank. and It was below the 'low' marker. So, i added some ATF ps fluid. still notice the whining sound.
Took it to the mechanic. he told me that the hose might be leaking. not sure which one (cus he didn't check for it.) Told me there are two hoses, one, only the dealer has and it's around $250. and the other one is about $150.
(He never mentioned the valve)
Is it possible to repair as a DIY for a beginner?
What parts/tools do I need?
Thank you in advance.
