Default question about keyless entry

i have a 2000 es 300 and i was wondering if es's normally makes a sound when u lock, unlock, or pop the trunk using the key. my car doesnt make a noise except when i am, say in the garage where it is really quiet i can here a really quiet beep. i bought the car from my grandparents so i think my grandpa disabled it for some reason.

so... is there normally a noise and if there is where does it come from so i can see if it was disabled or just broken.

Question

Should I expect the same "beep" and volume control on my '92?
I really expected that it only had a glamorized keyless entry system with little or no actual security.

Both Lexus and Toyotas offer that famous "beep". And yes, its just a *** underneeth your steering wheel that controls it's volume. When i first purchased my car, i encountered the same "problem" but i eventually figured it out. lol
