Thumbs down 93 ES300 Overheating!!!

Hello,
I own a 93 ES300 with 125,000 miles and the car starts to overheat when idling. I have changed the thermostat as well as the water pump and it has made no difference. The fans do come on but the engine does not cool down and the temperature continues to climb. Could it be the head gaskets or radiator??

Thanks

Default Get it checked..Powerflush..

First question i got for you is there any fluid missing from your system and #2 is when you run your car is there any change in exhaust gas color.I think you got a leak somewhere in your engine or maybe if you lucky just a cloged system.I recomend you get a full system power flush done.

The fluid is fine and there is no change in exhaust gas color. I will go ahead and do a full system power flush and hopefully that will solve the problem, otherwise im thinking the problem might be the head gaskets.

Thanks

Hi,

Do you have any discoloration in your motor oil? any clotting or any cottage cheese looking stuff in your coolant? If you have a blown head gasket you would be leaking coolant into your oil.

Hey,
Also there is another way of telling if you have a blown head gasket, it might work on these cars. Turn your car on and let it idle open your raidator cap and see if there is anything bubbling. if so you have a blown head gasket, also i had a blow head gasket in my 92 ES and i did not have any water of any such getting into my oil. Also another problem could be your intake gasket could be leaking. Are you losing any fluid at all??

Hello,
There is no discoloration in the motor oil and i does not loose any coolant at all; when it overheats and then i turn off the car, coolant is spilled all over. Today i took out the car for short test drive and it was not overheating but i when i did turn off the car the coolant starting leaking from the hose that comes out of the coolant reservoir. What else do you guys suggest i do?

Thanks

I recommend break down and pay a Toyota dealership to fix the thing before you crack a head or your block from the heat.

i have the same problem.. when i run it on the freeway and stop for a break i come back and find a puddle of water under the car.. and a big puddle too... but then i check the radiator and it is full.

In your expansion resevoir make sure there only is a little bit of water as the water expands when hot and as the water pump is not pushing the water around the engine is still red hot and the water gets hotter and then boils over into the expansion resevoir.

Make sure you have at least 4 litres of antifreeze/coolant, I changed my coolant and it seems ok now as before i had hardly any and stared to corrode the water system.

let me know how you get on!

Check your radiator for a greenish color at the top and bottom. I work at Toyota and it sounds to me that your either clogged somewhere, or your Radiator is junk. If you do a power flush ask them to flush your heater core also. Flush the heater core at the fire wall. good luck let me know.

Today i went ahead and took the car to get a powerflush, and the mechanic told me that the radiator was a bit clogged and now he says the system is clean. But the problem is still there, now the last thing that could be the problem are the head gaskets. Is it a difficult job to change the head gaskets or should i just have a proffesional do it?

Thanks
