Default Lighting Effects. Options?

So I got a friend of mines installed Cathode's lights in my car. They're basically better quality neon lights according to him. Wondering if anyone's ever tried them or any other lighting options. The cathode's were wonderful until a couple months hit. Passenger side started getting all dim. Here are a couple images of what I mean. You can see the difference. I noticed the prices for a new battery to "re-brighten" it isn't that much, but was wondering if anyone knew anything out there better.

Good gawd. That 2nd picture is crazy. I notice mine emits a lot but I've never seen it out in the open where it's still bright as hell. How long have you had them?/

These only light up when the doors are open right? They're not on as you're driving around right?
