Default Air Filter

Has anyone changed their air filter to a ricer one?? Like a HKS one or something? Just wondering if I should just leave the standard boxed air filter how it is, or take it apart and chuck a KnN one in or something. I know the standard filter has been engineered precisley for a nice filteration, so yeah, that's about all.

K&N filter's oil gets on the sensor and then f*&Ks it up. Engine light goes on... then your idle speed gets messed up. So I just stuck to a washable Fram one.

I have a 94 ES300 with a K&N air filter. It runs great with it. I even noticed while on the highway when I was doing 75MPH the RPM was at 3K with the stock filter. Now its at 2800RPM at 75MPH.

Sorry to tell you, but the RPM at a certain speed has absolutely nothing to do with the air filter! That's determined by the gear ratio.

I have to argue against it because its suppose to give you a horse power gain and fuel efficiency gain. If the car is working easier then the RPM should drop.

I can probably say that it could be a combination of things like tire pressue that can affect how hard your engine is working.

Cool

You're wrong.
RPM at cruise is a function of the entire gearing of the car (through the tire size), and the amount of slip in the torque converter. It has NOTHING to do with the amount of power the engine puts out.

And you spent $40-50usd on something that at best, will give you a tenth of a horsepower, while filtering the air worse than the generic $10-15 filter that goes in it. All the while costing more & not performing as well over time.

Never spend money on air filters. They don't do anything.

agree with above.. with the amount of money you spend on that K&N you can buy 4 filters.... =)

Yeah
Anyways I turn 3k rpm at about 70mph or maybe a little higher with my 5 speed. Dont matter to me though, 3k is nothing for my car and i still average 28 mpg city/highway. No joke

Cool

@ 3000rpm, overdrive, on stock tires.
E153 = 76.54mph
A540-E = 78.81mph
A541-E = 78.70mph
A541-E + Hidden option Camry differential = 85.39mph

Which... With the 200rpm or so slippage of the torque converter, even when locked, is why you cruise around 70mph @ 3000rpm. Has nothing to do with engine power output. hehehe
