Default Newbee here... First Post

Hey guys,

I just found this forum yesterday and am glad I did as there is a lot of great info on my 95' ES 300 here. I had no idea there was a forum like this for my car. I've had my ES for 6 years and bought it used from Carmax. It has been a great car and I have drove it like I stole it all this time. I bought it with 55K and now has 150k. It's paid for and I am hoping to get at least 300k out of it. I've only done the 60k tune up on it, replaced the O2 sensors, got new tires twice, drained the tranny and refilled once and recently had the master cylinder replaced along with new rear brakes... not to mention oil changes, air filter changes and alignments. Over all it has been pretty maintenance free. The ES is my daily driver and I also own a C5 Corvette. The Corvette forums have been invaluable for me to get info on doing my own work on the car and am hoping this forum will be the same for doing my own work on the Lexus.

Lately I've been having trouble with my transmission. This past winter I've had to let the car warm up for a minute before it would take off after shifting to drive in the morning... no big deal.. but lately when driving home (20 mile trip) from work the car with shift out of Overdrive about halfway home and not go back in until it cools down ( for me this is the next morning when I drive back to work because I don't use it again until then). I spent four hours searching this forum yesterday and it seems I need to flush my tranny and add new fluid. I haven't changed it in about 4 or 5 years so I'm hoping this is all there is to it. I have only checked the fluid level from the dipstick when the engine is cold but it is right on the full line. There is a lot of fluid all around the pan on my tranny so I'm thinking I need to drop the pan as well and get a new gasket.

Can someone link me to the procedures to do this tranny flush and pan drop, clean and reinstall?

Thanks for you help... great forum! Great cars!

For the ES's its pretty much a drain and fill procedure.

Thanks everyone... checked the tranny fluid this morning after driving to work and it is halfway between hot and cold. Sure hope changing the fluid does the trick. I need 2.5 qts of Dextron II correct?

Thanks for the info everyone. Finally found a 10mm Hex wrench and was able to put the car on the lift at work... drained and refilled. Took about 3.5 qts to replace what came out. We'll see if it corrects the overdrive problem but after the car got warm and I checked the levels the fluid that was cherry red now seems clear brown like new motor oil. I'm thinking I still need to drop the pan, clean the screen and do Phoenix's flush method through the cooler lines.
