Also after I got an OBD dongle, I noticed the transmission temperatures were a little unnerving, maxing out at like 115C on the highway. My mom's RX300's transmission (also a U140E) died a couple years ago, so to be prudent, I threw on on a B&M 70264 transmission cooler and it rarely hits 100C nowadays.
how do you check transmission temperature? i would like to monitor it as well. ive had tranny repaired at 200K and they install a separate cooler. but i am in texas and it does get very hot here.
do you have a good mechanic that you can recommend?

With these change I hope to drive another 5 years or another 50,000 miles. What do you think of my plan?

My previous car, toyota corolla lasted 270,000 miles, and was sold still working, so I don't see why not on a Lexus.

curious, did you do all this? are you still driving it?

You will get mixed feedback pretty much everywhere. The main thing of synthetic vs conventional is less oil changes. Maybe every 3k for conventional and maybe every 5k for synthetic. It all depends on the condition of the engine and what engine.

There are multiple ways to check transmission temperature. The way described here is using a bluetooth obdii dongle and the android app called Torque. You can buy the obdii dongle online just search obdii bluetooth android After that just add the dial in Torque.
important note.
For my car/setup at least. You need to start your car then open Torque to get an accurate reading. If you turn off your car and turn it back on, you need to close and re open Torque as well.
I can also comment on +200f on transmission temp during the summer. I installed 2 transmission coolers and it will rarely breach 200f now.

thanks

i had my transmission repaired recently and they installed a cooler without me asking. they thought clogged lines and high temp was the reason. what yo describe is a bit too tech heavy for me.i will for now just rely on the cooler.

heading out tonight to look at an 05 es330 with 175k as a potential upgrade from the 98 es300 with over 202K,

the miles really don't scare me to be honest.

I'd definitely make sure transmission is good with those miles.

These cars are very reliable, they can can go upto 500,000 plus miles if properly maintained!
I think the link below will justify my statement!

my 1992 es300 with a manual transmission has reached 240,000 miles. my mechanic says the engine will last at least 250,000 miles. i change oil every 5000 miles with full synthetic. sure i spend a lot on small repairs like struts and recently front cv boots, but the engine is still v. smooth and strong. and where can i get another reliable 5-speed luxury sedan?

NICE! looks great...my 2003 paint has peeled off the roof and the back trunk panel, mainly because I parked in full sun all these years. Besides that it works extremely well, original engine, transmission and coolant system. These car are build to last.
