Question weird, weird, weird

I just came back from the lexus dealer picking up some tune up parts - sp, ff, af, a few gaskets, etc..
I also picked up a new O2 sensor (the smog guy recommended that I replace one of them)
Anyhow, the salesman asked for my VIN number, which I wrote down and gave it to him.
The salesman told me that my car isn't from California, that's strange, considering that I bought the car from that actual dealer (Tustin Lexus BTW).

Is this possible???

Depends.. my girlfriend works at a dealership, which often trades cars with nearby cities, even in different states, but thats normally only if people request a specific color or options that the dealer doesnt have in stock.. and I've learned like 95% of people won't NOT buy a car because of the color.. Im thinking when I buy a brand new car im gonna know what color I want?, but Also, the dealerships normally trade, so lets say they traded a lexus dealer outta Arizona, even though you might not of requested the trade, maybe someone from the other dealer did, and thats what the dealer you bought yours from got..? just a thought..

Maybe, but I always thought California cars has to have their own special emissions standards.
If so I'm pretty surprised that my car passed smog
