How has the ES350 been doing on gas so far? Also, are you guys using premium unleaded?

Last tank average was a little over 24 mpg. Average MPH on the last tank was I believe 35 mph. Basically a combination of city and interstate driving. When I drive only in town, I get 21 mpg. Made one trip to Atlanta from Nashville the week I bought the car. Trip mileage was about 31 mpg. Overall mileage since I purchased the car is showing 23.5 mpg. I am using premium unleaded and have 2700 miles on the car. I am very satisfied with the mileage so far. Compared to my previous ride (2000 BMW 740iL) the Lexus is a pleasant change.

 

Just took a roundtrip of about 300 miles. Averaged 31.8 mpg with 80% highway and 20% stop and go driving. Car has just under 500 miles on it and I am using premium gas. Traded in a 2005 ES330 and I am extremely happy with the new ES350. The additional power in the 350 is greatly appreciated.

 

The last tankful of Premium through lots of stop & go city driving gave me almost 20mpg.

This is all I could expect, and it beats the '03 ES that I traded in by a few mpg.

It's amazing that this new car can get better mileage, especially with the added HP.

 

900+ miles so far, 80% local 20% high way, average 25-26 tank MPG, premium gas.

 

Last tank i got 25.4 mpg, and I drive the car pretty hard. This is about 15% city and 85% HW, but I the HW driving is up and down a moutain (which will kill gas milage). I'm pretty happy with these results. This last tank was 89 octane gas.. but I havn't noticed any real difference between the 87, 89 and 91 octane's

 

In all city driving, with just under 500 miles on the car, all premium gas, I've been getting a pretty steady 20.7 MPG. This is about 1 MPG better than my '02 ES 300. I consider my current MPG pretty darn good since the city EPA MPG figure for the car is 21 (IIRC).

 

My first tank average was 26.1 mpg. That's about 60% highway and 40% city. I'm very pleased with that given the HP increase from my previous ES, which averaged 25. It will be interesting to see what happens as the engine gets broken in and my foot gets heavier.

 

Is that what we should expect if we get the new ES??

We get 23 MPG with our RX330. We'll have to figure it out if we want to give up the big SUV space for only 3 - 4 MPG more. Right now it really does not make sense to go small for only a small increase in MPG.

 

Over the course of 100K miles, a difference of 4.5 MPG equates to a fuel savings of approx. 711 gallons. At $3.40/gallon, that's a savings of $2,417.

In my opinion, that's a conservative estimate as well. For starters, I believe the new ES350 will get between 6-7 MPG more than an RX series once break-in has occured. That bumps the 100K mile savings figure to over $3K over 100K miles. That may not be ground breaking to some of you, but it's a lot of dough and a lot less fuel consumption; something we all should be paying more attention to. Additionally, a car like the ES350 will (statistically) cost significantly less to maintain than any small or mid-size SUV on the road. If you incorporate those costs into the 100K mile cost of ownership, the ES350 will save you well over $5K in my opinion.

 

I found tonight that the readings in my car don't quite match reality. My car seems to report 5%+ better fuel usage than reality. I only use Premium. My speeds are usually 10mph above posted limits with protection by Valentine1.

Using gas station fillup receipts:
Second tank - 50% city, 50% highway.
600 kms (375 miles), 14.85 gallons (56.21 litres)
Actual usage - 25.25 mpg (9.36 litres per 100 km)
Vehicle reported 8.7 litres/100kms avg for the tank.

Third tank - 90% highway, 10% city.
692 kms (432.5 miles), 14.96 gallons (56.62 litres)
Actual usage - 28.91 mpg (8.18 litres per 100km)
Vehicle reported 7.8 litres/100kms avg for the tank.

My car has around 2000kms on it now, hasn't had first service as yet. What is amazing to me is this car uses less fuel than the 2004 Honda Accord EX 4cyl that it replaced. The Honda EPA figures show low fuel consumption, but the reality is that thing would consistently use 10-11 litres per 100km/h no matter how you drove it.

If my math is wrong, please correct me!

 

I've been tracking my mileage and consumption too & the computer readings seem to be quite accurate. On my last fill-up I had a display reading of 25 mpg and I had driven 207 miles & I put in 8.33 gallons. Not exact, but not every fill-up is to the same level, I know I always squeeze a little more in to round the $ total off. The 1st 1/3 of the tank was highway and I was in the 28's at that time.

 

Was that using the premium grade fuel?

 

Always, tried mid grade once, didn't feel any difference, but it was the lowest MPG tank I've had. The 10 cents less isn't worth 10% less MPG.

 

Seems the trip computer may be a little suspect in my car. Estimated range indicates 48 miles and average per tank is 23.5. Gas guage shows 1/4 tank. If I were to fill it up it would take about 14 gallons which means I have about 4 gallons remaining. Estimated range should be closer to double what is showing. I have noticed this discrepancy the last two times I have filled up. I have not manually calculated the MPG but suspect the reading my be a little high.
