It seems the navigation and telephone features don't work by the touch screen while the car is moving. Is there any way of changing this? I thought I read somewhere that there was but now I can't find it. I know the voice activation will work but would like it if the touchscreen also worked. Also, is there any way of getting around having to hit the 'I agree' button each time the car is started on the navigation?
Go to Menu, press Volume.
Then touch the upper left corner, lower left corner, upper left corner, lower left corner. A new screen pops up.
Press the Override button for about 3 seconds. A beep will sound. The Override button wll be highlighted.
That's it. Then you can use the nav and phone features while moving.
I tried the override procedure and it enables the navigation but not the bluetooth phone features. Has anybody else gotten this to work while the car is moving?
It sure is a pain to have to request the override on the nav each time I drive. Anyway to make it permanent? Also, I too only could make this work for the NAV. Would like a bluetooh hack or override too.
While the car is moving in the LS, we just use the 1-touch dial bluetooth numbers...
One "touch" dial? Hey, it's BLUETOOTH, the entire point in using a wireless headset is the ability to use the speaker for activation. Why would you "touch" anything? Or is the "one touch" thing like a button on the steering wheel that you need to push in order to "speak" the number you want (similar to the TL or higher end mercedes)?
Agreed, but for cars and the Gen IV NAVI system in the LS/GS, the point of bluetooth is to make the car your 'wireless headset' where the call is routed through the car's speakers. So it's a single button to call, and to receive calls. In Gen IV--unlike Acura, you cannot voice-dial. This is one area where Lexus lacked functionality.
As for Gen V and the improvements that have been made, I don't know if it can do more--hopefully.
You can voice-dial by name or number, but there are too many steps involved, thereby making it a nuisance.
Here is what you have to do just to make a "quick" call by voice:
Step 1 - Push Talk Button and listen to long-winded instructions
Step 2 - Push Talk Button and say, "dial by name," then listen to more long-winded instructions
Step 3 - Push Talk Button and say name of person in your phonebook, then listen to more long-winded instructions
Step 4 - Push Dial Button after final long-winded instructions
To my knowledge, there is no way to cut out the long-winded instructions from the car during each step. If you try to push the talk button over the car's voice, it simply repeats the voice instruction again...so you have to wait.
The only fast way to dial someone on this system is to push the speed dial number directly on the screen while you are driving.
I have read through the manual and found no shortcut to this. The whole "dial by name" or "dial by number" process takes about 1 minute to complete. That may not sound like a lot of time, but it truly is when you're just trying to dial someone quickly for whom you have setup a voice-dial shortcut in your phonebook.
The other hassle is that of having to hit a button 4 times just to make 1 call.

I agree the Bluetooth functionality is lacking. Previously had a BMW with BT and it was much easier and could be done with verbal commands while driving. Only took a couple of voice commands with the BMW. Don't understand why you cannot use Voice Recognition while driving to change or enter address. Couple of friends have Ininity M35's and their VR is much easier to use. Also, I am a little disappointed with the Voice Recognition. Seems VR doesn't like my Southern accent. Have yet been able to get a street address entered verbally. Also, I have a lot of trouble with city names. Salesman said he had similar problems with Gen V but no problems with Gen IV. Still like the car. Just hope they come out with an upgrade for the VR and BT.
