Try putting the key in the trunk lock and manually unlocking it. I've seen the little catch that locks it get flipped sometime and need to be unlocked before mine will shut (different model though).

I had a similar problem about two months ago with my hood. My Dad told me to oil the hinge assembly with a lubricating oil - but not WD40. I did it and it worked.

Mine was similar because I could get it to engage with a screwdriver too. That helped me know where to oil - hinge points and such. Also, try to get some down the cable for the remote release. This is probably the real problem.

Hopefully you will find the trunk easier to access than the hood, it was a #(%&@.

Good Luck

i took the latch assembly off and greased it up still did not work, but then i noticed part of the plastic gear hooked to a small motor was out of place. i put the latch assembly back in and the trunk closed.i cant use the button on the door now because it throws the gear out and i have pry it back with a screwdriver.i disabled that in the glovebox.i can only use the key to open the trunk,so it will still latch.

do i need a new lock mechanism,so the door button will work again
