Default 2000 and 2001 tailights

Well I found a full set of 2000/2001 tailights from Quality Auto Parts in Alabama for my 97 es. I went to Yahoo and used the junk yard searches and they were the only to claim they had the whole set of 4 pieces. They charged me $330 for a set off a 2000 which is about half of what lexus would charge. I asked repeadly that it was the complete set of 4 pieces and that it was off a 2000 or 2001. They said it was and confirmed it with an email. Anyway, I received an email today and they were checking to make sure that the tailights are quarter mounted and not lid mounted. What does that mean? Does that mean there thinking that its only 2 middle pieces instead of the complete set? I just sent an email telling them that I order a complete set(which I talked to them on the phone and asked repeadly that it was for the full set of 4 pieces) and I'm supposed to get tailights later on this week. What do u guys think is up?

wow! thats dirt cheap for the set. have you made sure they are really 00 01?

remember, you got two that go in the trunk lid and two that go in the quarter rear.

Since you said they were emailing you , why dont you send thenm a pic and make sure both of you are on the same page...and if you are, well, you gat a sweet deal!

Your best bet for these '00-'01 tailights is Ebay or the local junkyard. I wouldn't advise dishing out $700 for a brand new set of tailights from the dealership.

I checked ebay for the last 3 months and only find a piece here and there. So I decided to use the yahoo national junk yard search and Quality auto parts in alabama price quoted me with an email $330 for entire 4 piece tailights of a 2000 es300. Then I talked to Les and asked him 5 times over 2 phone conversations that it was the complete set of 4, 2 inner 2 outer and he said yes. I figured that most junk yards are about half off(lexus was a little over 700) the hard part was just finding an entire set and that I was getting what I paid for. Anyway, now they say its for 2 pieces and I sent them an email telling them to check their price quote and look at what they wrote on it. I asked for my money back. I guess if you work at a junk yard you probably can't count numbers and are sketchy(shaddy) because of you salary.

Correction. The rear turn signal (at least on my '01 ES) is a clear bulb, and the amber-like color you're seeing is the plastic housing so that the turn signals will always light up as amber. In other words, it will not make a difference in the color of the turn signals if you change the bulbs.

However, it IS possible to clear out the amber plastic housing behind the tailight corner assemblies by breaking it apart, but I don't know anyone here who's done it. I know some 2nd-gen GS owners have done it to their front turn signals by following the same method.

I'm going to give this a shot. I did a search on what you were talking about with the GS owners. They used a flat head to break apart that orange piece inside. Seems pretty simple. Thanks for the info!
