Can somebody explain the VCV10, MCV20 and MCV30 designations? From what I understand, they identify the body style, but I was wondering if these figures are in the VIN or somewhere? Thanks and sorry if this has been discussed before...couldn't find anything in search (mind you I probably didn't use the proper phrases due to my lack of knowledge).

To be even more precise, these codes are part of a longer string of information that designates the cars basic specs. The code outlines engine type, transmission type, drive type, drive side, manufacture location, destination, etc. It is called a Katashiki. The company uses this to ID the basic vehicle type. As an example the M in MCV20 designates the MZ engine family.

I am not sure if there are public sources for this information. I have never looked to see. I am an engineer for toyota/lexus so I kind of have the inside scoop on this one.

This is off the top of my head:

VZV21 - 2VZ-FE Camry V6/ES250 88-91
VCV10 - 3VZ-FE Camry V6/ES300 92-93
MCV10 - 1MZ-FE Camry V6/ES300 94-96
MCV20 - 1MZ-FE Camry V6/Solara V6/ES300 97-01
MCV30 - 1MZ-FE Camry V6/Solara V6/ES300 02-03
MCV31 - 3MZ-FE Camry V6 SE/Camry Solara V6/ES330 04-06

Here's some good info under TECH INFO if you want to learn more about Toyota engines/chassis codes and designations: http://www.toysport.com/
