Default over the mountain

Hi folks, 'went for a ride today, 75 miles up the mountain and down the other side ( light hills) and 75 back. Going up I tried to keep it between 2000and 3000 rpm manual shifting. The thought was to save lugging the motor. My question to you is, is this overkill and just let the transmission make the changes. Is running for a couple miles in 3rd gear 60 mph harder on things or not. My sense is that I did the correct thing but you guys know best.
God bless Ed

Just let it do it’s own thing. No need to limit the gears.

SMH. you probably just created unnecessary heat to your transmission by doing that. Just let it shift to automatic.

You bought a lexus to have a reliable and dependable car. Why are you babying the engine on mountains? lol
change your oil, coolant, transmission fluid, and etc thats how you baby these things

The S mode in the shifter is not actually a manual transmission in the true sense, you're just limiting the highest gear that the computer is able to select.
Tbh it's not worth it, the transmission controller is throughly tested for all regular road conditions, including steep inclines, just put it in D and drive as you normally would and let the car handle the rest, it will know what best to do.
