I was told by some employees at the Lexus dealership to drive it because it wouldn't "shatter". I tried to explain I wasn't concerned about it shattering but if something else hits this glass it will be totally undriveable. I have been driving it uninspected because the cracks do not impede my driving. I have repeatedly asked what it taking so long and I have been told it is a "supply chain issue". I reject that because they are putting out new RXs and they have windshields. No one can tell me how many plants they have that manufacture their windshields and no one can tell me how many other people are waiting but I am told other people have been waiting longer than I. I have called other states to inquire about availability and one Lexus dealership told me the windshield is "discontinued" but local people and the Lexus Brand engagement rep deny this. I have joked that even if there is one person making replacement windshields, wouldn't it be made by now?! It's disgraceful customer service. I see you are from Pennsylvania and I am as well.
That makes sense. If there's new cars coming out then it can't be discontinued, unless it's a slightly different windshield. But two years is not reasonable. Surely someone's made some windshields somewhere within that time frame. Can you trade in a car with a cracked windshield? Or maybe get it done with non Lexus glass and trade it in for another car or maybe see how it turns out. Is there a windshield in between official Lexus glass and aftermarket?

I haven't tried to trade it in because it has low miles and has the luxury package with nearly every option. The dealer didn't offer to trade it in but they offered to sell me a 2025 lol. I have been told the options for windshields for the RX are through Lexus or an after market glass that is not made or contracted by Lexus. In fact, I first started the process with Safelite because my insurance company directed me to them and they were trying to order the glass through Lexus anyway. The problem with the after market glass is that it may not calibrate and then the systems warning light up on the dash and do not turn off. I have been warned about this by various auto glass companies as well as my local Lexus dealer.

I. have a 2014 ES 350/UL, original owner. I had my glass replaced by the Lexus dealer. With the stuff mounted on the windshields, I suspect there may be some liability involved if those items are not re-mounted correctly and aligned (again, with the UL I have all the options...which now come with the car...heh). Anyway, it was about 2018 or so and costs $2000, if I recall correctly. Insurance paid $800, I think, don't quite remember. However, it is OEM glass and, I presume, verified by Lexus dealer before coming back to me--whether they farm it out or not, I do not know. That said, I have heard that Lexus OEM glass is the same as other cars that might fit, but don't pass the "no defects found" inspection--i.e., Lexus OEM glass is more superior. How much? Dunno. But I feel more comfortable knowing a Lexus dealer had a final say in my repair--they're on the hook if something were to fail.
