Default Side Mirrors

2014 ES350 Side Mirror problems. Passenger side doesn't respond to control and now Drivers side up and down doesn't work (side to side till works - only 73k miles. Is this a common problem? What can be done? TIA

I’m pretty sure that there is an easy adjustment for this sort of problem. My 2018 ES350 was having an adjustment problem last year. It would slip at times when making an up and down adjustment. The mirror would simply seem to fall back down afterwards. At any rate, last summer I ended up replacing both exterior mirror covers. I had my dealer do this. When I got my car back, my driver’s side mirror no longer had any adjustment issues. The mirror no longer slipped at all. So I’m thinking that the dealer simply tightened the adjustment mechanism up while having access to it. The difficulty that you may have is gaining access to that mechanism. There are 4 screws, as I recall that must be removed in order to remove the mirror cover. A couple of them are rather difficult to access. That is why I let the dealer handle it. Good luck.

I wouldn't say it's common to these cars but things can and do fail. The mirrors are easy to work on. Removing the glass of the mirror is pry-and-tug. It can be a bit spooky at first but once you do it it's straightforward. After that, the entire inside/outside of the assembly can be disassembled with the screws that were behind the mirror. Or, you can just replace the whole thing and easily re-use the painted front covers of the mirror body with your old ones.

Default Tug and pry

Pulling the mirror off sounds scary. It's an expensive mirror to break. Do you pry one side off or try to get a finger grip on both sides?

You could use your finger, but it would be safer and easier to use a plastic body trim removal tool to pry/pop the reflective mirror out. You want to do it from the outer edge. If you don't have one, Harbor Freight or Ama,on sells 3-4 piece trim tools for $10 or so.

Thanks for the advice! I have those blue plastic tools from Harbor Freight. I'll give it a try..
