Hi All, This forum has been very helpful to me. I thank those of you who have helped me in the past.
I have a question about error code P0017- Crankshaft Position and Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor B on my 2008 ES350.
I believe that code does not necessarily mean those sensors are the issue. However, I did replace one sensor and have driven 30 miles and the check Engine did not come on.
My question is should I replace both sensors at the same time or is replacing one ok? I would think I should replace both. I bought two Denso's 196-1001 but I will return one if I really don't need it.
Thank you for any advice you can give to me. Here is the code reader.
That code is crankshaft/camshaft correlation error that usually points to oil control valves not the cam sensor itself. If you are code free for say 1 tank of gas I'd consider that a fix.
Hi...Thanks so much for answering my question. You are correct. My check engine light came on again yesterday after 60 miles of installing the new camshaft sensor. . Error Code now reads P0015. I had an oil change today and the tech said I will most likely need four new VVT's if the check engine comes on again. They want $1100 to do the job. And, if after the VVT's are replaced and the check engine comes on again he said I'll need a new timing chain. Which would be probably 2 thousand dollars. I'd like to do the job myself because I have many of tools but replacing the selinoids seems a bit much. Thanks again for answering my question.
This is what the tech said that claimed he was a master mechanic for 10 years at Lexus. He said there were four VVT's that need to be changed. Do you know which VVT would I need to change? Meaning if there are 4 how would I know which one to change? Thanks.
This is the new error code I received right before the oil change. Technician said I will need 4 VVT's if check engine light comes on after the oil change. Would this P0015 mean I may need all four replaced on my 08 ES 350? Thanks so much again for any help you can provide.
What I would do?
I would remove the valve and test it directly on a 12V battery. If it does not work then I would replace it. If it would work I would switch the place of it with another valve.
If the code changes to the new position then the valve is broken. If not then the wires a the problem.
If you need to replace it, I would get an OEM valve.
ESh...I very much appreciate you supplying me with all that information on VVT. I must admit some of it is above what I may be able to do on my own. I do have a very good friend who is a mechanic and did a lot of work on 06 Accord. I'm sure I can get him to help me. If I can ask you one more question. I replaced one of the two camshaft sensors. I replaced the one in front of the engine. I did NOT replace the one in the back. Do you think I should replace the second or should I just return the new unused one to Amazon? I bought two Denso sensors @ $80.00 each. Maybe I can take the new one out, put back the old one and return both being I may not need them to be replaced. What do you think? Sorry for rambling here. I appreciate the time you have taken to help me very much.
