Default Knock sensor Hack

I got a 2001 Lexus es300 235,000 .miles and got both knock sensor malfunction I did the hack with the new harness joining into one connector and remote located a new knock sensor on the motor mount ,cleared the code and after driving about half a mile the knock sensor code comes back along with a VVT code which I never had before I am really upset with this car but the wife trying to hang on.Exactly how are the wires spliced on the new connector into one ,do you peel the shielding or black wires away it's something I am missing or doing wrong because everything I read and video I watched never went into detail about the spliced wires which should be really simple so help save this car from going to the crusher .

Hello,

The point of a Knock Sensor hack is to feed the information from one sensor to both inputs, essentially bypassing one of the failed sensors. In your case, however, both of the sensors are fried, so no matter how you splice your wiring, none of those sensors will come back to life, and the codes won't disappear. Knock sensors are essential part of the fuel injected vehicle, without them it is a matter of moments between a fully functioning engine becomes a garbled mess, knocking takes very little time to wreck a more or less modern engine, hence why the Fail-Save function is so restrictive, and why you should address those codes as soon as possible. You can find NTK sensors on RockAuto if you don't want to go OEM, but even used will be a lot better than nothing.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
