I am reading the Haynes manual on changing the coolant in my 2000 ES 300. It sounds a bit complex. Removing the thermostat to flush it. Anybody done this?
When I asked my dealer what they do at the major services, they only perform a drain and fill. If you were to flush, then yes, they would remove the thermostat.
I plan and performing the drain myself and fill every other year and it should be in good shape.
See my bah post. I would advise flushing if you've never done it.
Depending on how bad it is, flushing isn't hard and really shouldn't take but one go around.
Give that a try then fill it up and never do it again (assumeing you've are actually going to CHANGE the anti freeze LoL)
Sadly, just like oil changes, it seems many original owners never refilled their cooling system...
Save yourself a 4 hour radiator change project and around $130. Flush it once for the heck of it. The worst it can be is very gunked up and require more flushing.
Which is great, because for a small time investment you're saved from having to replace a blown radiator like I did!
