Going to replace an es330 engine. Will a camary engine work?
I have to replace the engine in a 2004 es330. I was wondering what the differences are between the lexus 3mzfe and toyota camary 3mzfe. I would assume they are the same, but the thing that concerns me is that most part interchanges (ebay and car-part.com) do not list the two as interchangeable. I know that the sienna 3mzfe has different holes tapped because engine mounts are different (source: youtube videos by all Tsab). Can anyone speak to the compatibility of these two issues?
I have not tried, but I believe you may also have compatibility issues with the some of electronic engine management. There are other members with broader experience that I'm sure will chime in. Good Luck!
They’re sold whole as used and “new” online as Toyota/Lexus engines as if they’re interchangeable, but that could just mean they’ll bolt up. Transmission linkage comes to mind right away but that’s minor. ECU compatibility between the same-same brands might be an issue and I can’t find a definitive answer online for the 330 engine in your year Lexus.
Keep in mind at the time, the engines were not built in the same factories. The Lexus engines were built in Japan and the Camry engines were built in Kentucky. I imagine some small details differed, but I think it could be more about ancillary equipment that could be swapped over vs. base engine. An educated guess, not a firm statement.
