Default Fuel Pump Longevity, ES 330

I've done a search, and not a single hit came up of fuel pump failures. My '04 has 150,000 miles; would you worry about it? I've had a couple of nasty experiences (expensive tows) on other cars so I'm a bit leery.

Fuel pump is about the last thing to fail.

I agree with Lexus2000.

At 150K your main concern with fuel line delivery would be the Fuel Filter and that’s not a “big job”.

One tip would be to keep your gas tank level above 1/4 full to alleviate fears of possibly picking up junky gas.

Well that's good to know. Pity though that the filter is in-tank.

No, your Fuel Filter is located on the firewall on the driver’s side.

I’ll try and find a picture showing where it’s located.

FromFL is correct, 02- 06 is an integrated fuel pump filter. Earlier models have an external fuel filter on the firewall.

Homerjay,

You’re absolutely correct. My memory was stuck on a 1998 ES thread here from not too long ago.

Why the external one was removed for a gas tank replacement either speaks for the pump/filter assembly’s longevity or the engineers hate DIYrs.

So Fromfl, the choice of to change the filter or not is back in your court. I’m sticking with Lexus2000’s comment.

Are you now experiencing any suspected fuel delivery problems?

FromFl,

Your fears of pump replacement aside, here’s another member though that changed his in-tank filter.

All Lexus fuel pumps of this era have a filter in the tank (it's really a very fine screen). Seems a replaceable, ultra fine filter element was deemed not necessary.

No, all is fine, just don't want to be left stranded but I'm going to let this go and not worry about it.

I might do my fuel pump and filter when I do my big tune up next year on my 06. Just to get it out of the way and never have to worry about it again. I didn’t know the filter was in the pump like that.
