Default 2nd gen high output alternator?

Hello, Im struggling to find any sort of info on a higher output alternator for my 1992 es then the stock 80 amp one. Just about done with my stereo and 80 amps isnt going to cut it. Im ruining around 1400 watts so I dont need anything crazy powerful, 120-160a should do but I cant find info on anything other then the stock 80a one. If anybody has any info on this I would love the help. As a last resort I dont mind a bit of custom fab to fit something from another car but Im unsure on the 3 pin plug and what its pinout is.

None of the reputable companies seem to make one. Only things I've been able to find are the Ebay ones that claim high output and searching a bunch of their names a few of them come up on YouTube or forums as fake, either testing same as stock or only 10% more output. I've contacted a few local shops asking about rewinding via email and only 1 got back to me telling me they cannot do it.

Talk to Jonathan at CES. Custom electric services from Ohio. I’ll never go with another company after dealing with him for my 06

Thanks for the recommendation! He was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. My 250a is on the way, Seems like a fantastic company.

250 amps huh?! He recommended a 200amp one for my 06 and I’m pushing almost 2,000 watts. I kept asking about a stronger one but he said it’s completely un necessary and can cause issues.

Yeah I mean he just gave me the list and I picked. 160 would of been plenty for me but more never hurts. I also had him bump the voltage regulator up to 14.8 as I'm using agm.

Interesting. I’m using a Northstar battery and told him exactly what I got going in. Maybe ask him one more time if you’ll have any issues if you have to strong of a alternator just to be safe. I don’t think bigger is always better

There is no issue with running a high amperage alternator as the current is regulated by voltage. When the car is running with nothing pulling high amperage the alternator will only deliver a few amps to keep voltage where it should be. I've got a buddy with a 3 alt setup that delivers just over 1000 Amps and ran only 2 batteries until he could afford more.

He quoted me this.

Small case
Denso hairpin: 160 amps is 245$, 180 amps is 285$, 250 amps is 320$, 300 amps is 365$, 320 amps is 395$. idle around 150-160 amps at engine running temp.

All units come with a lifetime warranty at parts cost for repair or rebuild, and 6 month no defect guarantee.

3 weeks is average lead time on all custom order units.

Powder coat is 45$. All color options can be found in Eastwood powder coat website.

I guess he was in a good when we were talking because he could of easily sold me a stronger alternator. Unless you just told him what you want without asking questions like I was. Will yours be simple plug and play?

It wont be direct plug and play. He is sending me a different style plug I will solder into my wiring harness. I asked alot of questions but not that particular one, I did my own research previously on using a high output alt and found the only scenarios it can cause damage is charging a completely flat (under 8v) single battery setup with well over 500 amps or having wires too thin to support the current charging a larger battery bank. However somebody with over 500 amps of alternators will likely already have a large battery bank with 0 awg big 3 upgrade done. When doing a typical jump start on a flat battery from something like a truck with dual batteries over 1000 amps can flow when 1st connecting the jumper cables, Its not the best for the battery but its not going to destroy it. 250a on a single dead battery will not harm it, after just a few seconds the current will begin to drop as the voltage comes up. Ive also done the big 3 but even the stock alternator/battery wiring would probably only get a bit warm passing 250a for a short time. I plan on adding a 2nd battery to the trunk soon for some more reserve capacity.

Mine is direct plug and play. It only required the big 3 upgrade. He said the alternators last as long as OEM ones! Pretty cool
