Replacing Muffler, 4ES 2002-2006
Has anyone else had their tail pip rot for no apparent reason?
It's like the pipe is carbon steel while the rest was stainless. Makes no sense in our mild, no-salt climate. There is no corrosion anywhere on the car or exhaust besides the tailpipe and weld and the hangers adjacent. I have never had a muffler rust in the PNW.
Anyway, my replacement options are Bosal and Walker about the same price, $130-$140. OE is $400. I found a clean take off from an ES330 for $120-ish. Normally I'd take that route, but I can't trust that the pipe would be the proper material and corrosion resistant.
Anyone seen this happen or have suggestions? And if I go with aftermarket, does Bosal or Walker have an edge over the other?

Walker is usually decent enough but nothing like OEM. Every Bosal part I've used didn't fit and didn't last either. That rotted out due to condensation too bad Lexus went cheap with the mild steel tail pipe.

Yep, annoying the construction was so shoddy. I would prefer OE and am contemplating that and drilling drain holes. Someone suggested that was an easy way to get around the condensation collection trap.
