Default Engine oil filter?

So I just did a DIY engine oil & oil filter change on my 2004 ES330. Is it OK to hand tighten the engine oil filter or does it need more force then just hand tightening? Thanks

Hand-tighten is recommended for most oil filters. Always check for leaks with the engine running afterwards,

oil filters should always be hand tightened, but must have fresh engine oil on the seal or it will leak without doubt.

I installed a Denso oil filter and 5 quarts of Pennzoil full synthetic in my freshly-sealed '99 recently...took a pic of the instructions on the Denso box. See attached.

I change my oil and filter every 3k miles. Never had any leaks.
Dip your finger in your new oil
Spread the oil along the rubber seal on the filter
Hand tighten just about as tight as you can
Done

Thanks to you & everyone for your reply's. It seems a good hand tightening is called for & that's what I did.

I do hand tightening as well. I also don't go too crazy. If I hand tightening too much, once the gasket expands slightly, the filter takes a lot more effort to loosen.
