Default My first car. 2000 ES 300..

It's beautiful..but vvti codes and idler codes with misfire.. Any places to get these parts? And would simply changing the oil fix the vvti codes? 173XXX miles and I'm the third owner. Please any feedback is welcome. Got it at auction for $1,300. Thanks

What are the VVT codes? (and what is the idler code?) You might have to buy the LeftHand and RightHand Oil Control Valves for the VVT code(s). They aren't a hard DIY. My 1999 ES300 is at 162k and my rear (right hand) OCV (vvt solenoid) went bad, but I replaced both anyways.

Symptoms for my VVT codes were like.. after 20+ minutes of smooth no symptom freeway speed driving, you get off into the city traffic, and light acceleration after stop lights will cause misfires and generalized ****ty-your-car-feels-like-it's-gonna-blow-up feeling until you get it back up to 50mph. (My misfires were on bank1: aka cylinder 1, 3, 5)

(Left Hand Bank2) http://a.co/3QMUqr6 (It fits 1999/2000 ES despite what the Amazon thing says. Anything with a 1MZ-FE engine. 15340-20011 also fits. Same parts basically. 15340-20010 is the original part number before it changed)

I think mine went bad because they were original and I was seeing if I could go 2000 more miles on my usual 5k oil change interval, and I guess the car consumes enough oil so that it went down to the add 1 QT marking. Apparently the VVT system is sensitive to oil pressure/level. I think sludge could probably mess them up too, but my oil is synthetic and squeaky clean. I'll definitely be sticking to my 5k intervals again :O

On a side note. I'm curious to see your "beauty" at only $1500. Any pics?
I bought my 1999 at 130k for $5000 after taxes and fees, but it had only 1 owner and all the dealership servicing records for it's entire life up until sale. Extremely well taken care of inside and out. The leather seats still look brand new (driver seat a little less so, but still pretty flawless). I'm OCD about my car, so it still looks the same

I've never shown pics of my car on here yet, so here it is for fun

I genuinely appreciate the help I will look into the links you sent. But the symptoms are spot on...I'm gonna do an oil change and see it that fixes it, if not its on to the selanoid a:0

If that was mine, I'd probably do a few shorter interval oil changes. I think you'll definitely need to swap out the OCV VVT solenoids though. Seems like these cars need replacement OCVs at around 150k give or take, based on some other posts about it.

Not a bad deal for $1500 though, once you fix the issues by giving it some TLC

definetely gonna need to replace them. First oil change, spark plugs+wires.. Then solenoids yea got it from auction! I love this car.. Had an mr2 when I was younger but it wasn't registered to me.. I love toyotas tho. I really like how everything is set up mechanically in the engine bay, easy filter change I'll post more when I'm finished. Thank you three for your replies and input, it's greatly appreciated!

^ These have coils, not wires.

Ps. I hate to be "that" guy... but you overpaid... It looks very, very beat.
Why does it have a '98 front end on it and the 15" wheels? Or is it a 98 with the 00-01 tails?
Looks like someone with a severe disability was given a can of touch up paint and went nuts on it... lol
