Rear Suspension Clunking Over Bumps and Vibration on Highway *FIX* 1999 ES300
I bought my ES a little over a year ago and it is a bit of a basket case. If I were to go back in time I think I would just replace everything rubber on the car. Being that it all the rubber on the car is 17 years old it dries out, gets hard, shrinks, cracks ect...
After chasing all kinds of noises and replacing a rear wheel bearing that I thought was the culprit of the vibration I finally found where both the noise and vibration are coming from. The REAR LATERAL CONTROL ROD BUSHINGS. I have also seen these called control arms, trailing arms ect. They are the two arms that attach to the rear knuckle that run perpendicular to the length of the car. I found all 4 arms on ebay for $144 shipped

I would much rather just replace the bushings because there is nothing wrong with the arms, but I can't find a good source. All I can find is for the rear lower control arm. http://www.ebay.com/itm/WHITELINE-RE...JW4sw3&vxp=mtr
You can check these by either grabbing on to the arm it self and rocking or shaking it back and forth. If bad it will have free play and possibly make noise. You can also grab the tire at 3 O'clock and 9 O'clock and shake it back and forth like when you are checking for a bad tie rod. If bad it will again have free play.

my mom's 99 camry v6 has the rear clunk, already changed swaybar bushings and swaybar links.
It also has new rotors, brake lines and rebuilt calipers in the rears and fronts.
I also found the whiteline kit but was hesitant to get it if I wasn't sure where the noise was coming from.
If you do end up changing the bushings please let us know...

I can't find the bushings anywhere, I might just get the arms because I have some money in my paypal account from selling some stuff on eBay. I will keep you posted.
I've seen other posts for people replacing the trailing arm bushings (which is the second link I posted), but none for the lateral control arms/rods.
The set up is the same on the Camry and I have seen people post about this same problem on Camry forums.
